Serious assault on Grafton Street, Dublin on the 29/5/11 - Male arrested

Gardai investigating a serious assault which occurred at Grafton Street, Dublin on the 29th May 2011 have this evening (30/6/2011) arrested a male aged in his 20's.

He is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984, at Pearse Street Garda Station.

Gardai at Pearse St are investigating a serious assault which occurred at Grafton Street Dublin 2 near its junction with Harry Street on Sunday the 29th May 2011 at 3am.

A male in his mid 20s received serious head injuries and was removed to Beaumont Hospital. He has subsequently been released.

The culprit had been walking down Grafton St from the Stephens Green area along with another male and female. They continued walking down Lower Grafton St onto College Green after the assault.

The culprit is described as a white male, early to mid 20s, tall, well built, casually dressed, wearing a white tee-shirt under a jacket. The female is described as being of slim build, with dark hair. She was wearing a short black shirt and carrying a handbag in her right hand. The second male is black, tall, well built and casually dressed wearing a black jacket.

A crowd gathered around the injured man and investigating Gardaí are requesting that anyone who may have witnessed this assault, or who was in the Grafton St area at about 3am on Sunday morning the 29th May 2011to contact Pearse St Garda Station on 01-6669000 the Garda Confidential Line 1-800-666-111 or any local Garda Station. Gardaí would also like to speak to Taxi drivers who may have picked up the three people (described above) in the area of Westmoreland Street/ Aston Quay/ O Connell Bridge area.
