Attempted abduction in Ferbane, Offaly on the 18/7/11 - Arrest

Gardai investigating the circumstances of an attempted abduction in Ferbane, Co Offaly, on the 19th July 2011 have arrested a man aged in his 40's.

The man was arrested in the Tramore area of  Waterford this morning, the 28th July 2011, and is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984, at Tullamore Garda Station.

Gardai in Birr are investigating the circumstances of an attempted abduction in Ferbane, Co. Offaly on the 19th July 2011.

The incident occurred at approx 8.30pm on the 19th July 2011 at Moyclare, Ferbane, when a  girl in her early teens was cycling her bicycle between her own house and that of a friend's.  A white van described as a car-type pulled up beside the girl and a male engaged her in conversation, he then attempted to pull her into the van but after a brief struggle she managed to escape.  The driver drove off in the direction of Ferbane.
 
The location of the incident  is at the townsland of  Moyclare on the road to Clonlyon, off the Ferbane to Belmont Road approx 2km outside Ferbane.
 
The male is described as being middle aged, small in stature, dark hair and wearing glasses.
