Gardaí in Henry Street are appealing for witnesses following an incident on the Old Cratloe Road at approximately 9.15am this morning, the 20th January 2011.

A woman pulled up outside a shop in her car.  She entered the shop leaving three children in the car.  A 32 year old male approached the car, pulled two of the children out (a 12 year old girl and 9 year old boy) and took the car.  A mile away from the shop a 3 year old boy was put out of the car.

Local Gardaí requested the assistance of the RSU.  They, alongside units from Henry Street identified and followed the car which crashed at the Delmeges in the Moyross area of the city.  Gardaí approached the vehicle issuing verbal warnings.  Despite this, the male attempted to drive the car at the members.  Two shots were fired by a member of An Garda Síochána, and the car came to a stop.  The male was arrested, and is being detained in Henry Street Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.

There were no serious injuries arising out of the incident. Gardaí in Henry Street have notified the Garda Ombudsman about the incident.
