Gardai in Ardee, Co. Louth are investigating a single vehicle fatal road traffic collision which occurred at approximately 4.30am this morning, 1st January 2011, on the southbound lane of the M1 near Milltown, Co. Louth (between junctions 15 and 16).
A male driver and his female passenger (both believed to be in their 20's) were pronounced dead at the scene after their car was involved in a collision with a fence.
There were no other occupants in the car and no-one else was injured.
The road remains closed at the scene pending a technical examination. Diversions are in place via the old N1.
