Investigation into Post Office robbery in Castlerea, Roscommon on the 16/2/11 - Court appearance

A man in his 20’s will appear before Castlerea District Court this afternoon (18/2/11) charged in connection with the Post Office robbery in Granlahan, Castlerea, Co. Roscommon on the 16/2/11

A female in her 40’s was released without charge; a file will be prepared for the information of the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Gardaí investigating this robbery made 2 arrests yesterday evening, 17th February 2011, in Ballinlough, Co. Roscommon.

A man in his 20's and a woman in her 40's are presently detained at Castlerea Garda Station under section 30 of The Offences Against The State Act.

Gardaí at Castlerea are investigating a post office robbery that occurred shortly before 10am this morning, Wednesday, the 16th February 2011,  in Granlahan, Castlerea, Co. Roscommon.

Three masked man entered the post office.  Two were armed with what appeared to be firearms.

The post office was occupied by a female member of staff who was locked in a room at the rear of the premises. 

There were no members of the public in the shop at the time.  No shots were fired or persons injured.

An undisclosed amount of money and an unknown amount of cigarettes were stolen.

The raiders made their getaway in a green Nissan Almera car with a 01 LH registration.
