Fatal shooting near Waterloo, Blarney, Cork on the 10/2/11 - Renewed appeal

Gardaí investigating the fatal shooting of a 30 year old man in Blarney on Thursday last, the 10th February 2011 are making an appeal.

They are aware that a green Ford Transit van was in the Birchhill area of Grenagh that day at the crucial time of 3.30pm to 4.00pm and that at some stage this same van would have been in the vicinity of Birchhill House.

The driver and/or occupants of this van are important potential witnesses and we are requesteng that they contact the incident room at Gurranabraher Garda Station on 021 4946200, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.

Two of the three men detained in relation to this investigation will appear before a special sitting of Cork District Court (Anglesea Street) this evening, the 15/2/11, at 7pm.

The third man has been released from custody without charge and a file will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Gardai in Gurranabraher are investigating a fatal shooting incident which occurred at approximately 4.00pm this evening, the 10th February 2011 near Waterloo in Blarney.

A male in his late 30’s was shot dead.  The body remains at the scene and the area is currently sealed off.

The State Pathologist has been notified and a post-mortem examination is expected to take place tomorrow.

Three men have been arrested and are currently being detained in Gurranabraher (2) and Mayfield (1) Garda stations under the provisions of Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act 2007.
