Gardaí at Carrick-on-Shannon are investigating a serious assault that occured at 3.30a.m. this morning, Sunday, the 18th December 2011 in the Townparks area of the town.
The injured man aged 30 years was found with serious injuries to his head and removed by ambulance to Sligo General Hospital where he remains in a critical condition.
The area has been sealed off for a technical examination.
Gardaí wish to appeal for witnesses to this assault or to anyone that may have been in the area between 12 midnight and 3.30a.m. to contact Carrick-on-Shannon on 071 - 9620021, the Garda Confidential Telephone line 1 800 666 111 or any Garda Station.
