Investigation into fires in Donegal - Update

Gardaí at Buncrana have made 2 further arrests in relation to these investigations.

The 2 arrests - both male, ages 20 & 21 years, took place this afternoon, Friday 26th August 2011, in the Buncrana area of Donegal.  They are detained at Buncrana Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.

Of the original 5 men arrested, 2 have been charged and the other 3 will be the subject of a file to the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Both men who have been charged are on bail to appear before Buncrana District Court on Thursday 8th September 2011 at 10.30am.

As part of the ongoing Garda investigation into fires in the Buncrana area, Gardaí have in the last two days (24th/25th August 2011)arrested five males. They range in ages from 17 to 24 years and were detained at Buncrana (3) and Letterkenny (2) Garda Stations.  One was detained under Section 30 of the Offences against the State Act 1939 and the other four under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984. 

A 17 year old male was released from custody at Buncrana last night the 24th of August and the other four remain in custody. 

Gardai are investigating  eleven (11) incidents of fires in the Buncrana area since early July.  The attacks have been random and some  have occurred in isolated rural areas.  Properties targeted included unoccupied buildings;  farm sheds, vehicles and a health centre.
