Fatal road traffic collision on the N2 in Monaghan on the 2/8/11 - Male charged

Gardai in Carrickmacross investigating a fatal road traffic collision involving a cyclist and a vehicle on the 2/8/11 at approximately 10.15pm on the N2 Carrickmacross to Castleblaney Road arrested a 37 year old man yesterday, the 3rd August 2011 in Carrickmacross.

He was detained under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 as amended he was later charged in connection with the incident and will appear before a sitting of Dundalk District Court at 11am this morning, the 4th August 2011.

Gardai in Carrickmacross are investigating a fatal road traffic collision involving a cyclist and a vehicle on the 2/8/11 at approximately 10.15pm on the N2 Carrickmacross to Castleblaney Road.

 23 year old male cyclist was fatally injured when he was struck by a vehicle that failed to stop.  He was pronounced dead at the scene.  

The road is currently closed pending completion of an examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators.  

Gardai wish to appeal for witnesses who travelled this stretch of road between 10pm and 10.30pm or to any one that can assist in this investigation to contact Carrickmacross Garda Station on 042-9690190, The Garda Confidential Telephone Line 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.
