As a result of an ongoing operation targeting "cannabis grow houses" based in the Kildare and Westmeath Counties members of the Garda National Drugs Unit today, Thursday 18th August 2011, carried out a search of a premises in Kilbeggan, Co. Westmeath.
They were assisted by Gardaí based in Naas and Mullingar.
On searching the premises 400 cannabis plants were discovered which have a potential street value of approximately €160,000 – subject to analysis. A substantial amount of sophisticated equipment used in the cultivation of cannabis was also seized.
A 34 yr old man was arrested at the scene and is presently detained at Naas Garda Station under Section 2 of the Drug Trafficking Act.
A follow up search in Rathangan, Kildare resulted in the seizure of additional equipment used in the cultivation of cannabis.
