Drowning in River Liffey on the 31/7/11 - Witness appeal

Gardai at Pearse Street Garda Station are seeking the public’s assistance in relation to a drowning incident that occurred in the River Liffey at Burgh Quay, Dublin 2 on the morning of the 31st July 2011.

The deceased man Aiden Mullen (35yrs) from Tattyreagh Road, Co. Tyrone had attended Croke Park on the 30th July 2011he was socialising in a Public House on Burgh Quay with a number of friends and family.  At approx. 3.40a.m. on the 31st July 2011they left the premises and were waiting on Burgh Quay to get taxis home.  The deceased left the group and walked over to the River Liffey wall and he was last seen fall into the river by his brother.  Having entered the water his brother also jumped in to assist him, both got in to trouble in the water.  Three passers by also entered the water to assist these two.  Five units of Dublin Fire Brigade attended at scene and removed four persons from the water. A short time later the body of the deceased was located in the vicinity by D.F.B members.
