Traffic collision Dublin update

The 21 year male pedestrian injured in a road traffic collision which occurred on Parnell Road this morning( Press Release 358/11 refers) was pronounced dead at St. James’s Hospital this afternoon (22/4/11)

An 18 year old man was arrested this afternoon in connection with this incident. He is currently detained at Sundrive Road Garda Station under Section 4 Criminal Justice Act 1984.

Gardaí at Sundrive Road are investigating a serious injury road traffic collision that occurred on Parnell Road shortly before 2am this morning, Friday 22nd April 2011.

A 21 year old male pedestrian was struck by a car receiving serious injuries and as a result was taken to St. James's Hospital where his condition is described as critical.

The car (a 96D Green Nissan Micra) was left at the scene but the driver failed to remain with it.

The road remains closed to facilitate a forensic collision investigation.

Gardaí believe there was pedestrian traffic in the area at the time and are appealing for witnesses to come forward and contact them at Sundrive Road on 01 6666600, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.
