Searches and arrests in Tipperary on the 9/9/10

Gardai from the Tipperary Division have discovered 4 pipe bombs a handgun, ammunition and made 8 arrests today (9/9/10) following a planned operation targeting individuals involved in drug distribution and organised crime in the Tipperary District.

A total of 15 searches were conducted in dwellings by the Tipperary Divisional Search Team.  One search on the outskirts of Tipperary Town resulted in the discovery of pipe bombs, ammunition and a handgun (subject to technical examination) in a laneway.
 

The Army Explosive Ordinance Disposal are currently at scene examining the devices.  The handgun and ammunition have been removed for technical examination.
 

The 8 males arrested range in ages from their 20’s to mid 30’s and were detained at Tipperary and Thurles Garda Stations under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984. One Male is due to appear at Youghal District Court on the 10/9/10 and the other 7 have been released on bail and are due to appear at Tipperary District Court on the 15th September 2010.
