On the basis of a recent review conducted by the Garda Serious Crime Review Team, the Coroner for County Clare, Ms. Isobell O'Dea, applied for and was granted an exhumation order under the Coroners Acts by the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform.

At 7am this morning, the 19th May 2010, this exhumation order was executed by investigating Gardaí.

The basis for the application for the exhumation order centered upon advances in forensic sceince, patology and anthropology since the untimely and suspicious death in 2005.

The body was removed to Galway University Hospital where forensic examinations were conducted on the remains by Dr. Michael Curtis and a Forensic Anthropologist, Dr. Lorraine Buckley.

The results of the examination have been supplied to the investigation team and show that Emer O' Loughlin was murdered.
