Gardai at Athlone are investigating a fatal road traffic collision which occurred on the M6, Monksland, Athlone, Co. Westmeath, at approximately 6am this morning, the 6th March 2010.
A male pedestrian aged in his 70's was fatally injured when he was struck by a motor car.
The eastbound carriageway of the M6 is currently closed between Junctions 14 and 12 pending a forensic examination. Motorists travelling east are advised to divert onto the old N6 between Ballinasloe and Athlone.
