Fatal road traffic collision on the Roscommon to Athlone Road (N61) at on the 15/7/10

Gardai are investigating a fatal road traffic collision on the Roscommon to Athlone Road (N61) at 12.10 a.m. on the 15th July 2010.

A car and a lorry were involved in a collision and a passenger in the car, a man aged 19 years, was fatally injured.  The dead man is believed to have been a Brazilian national and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Another man, a passenger in the car was removed to hospital with what are described a serious injuries and two women in the car received minor injuries.  The occupants of the car were all in their late teen or early twenties.

The driver of the truck, a man in his 60's, was also treated in hospital for minor injuries.  All were taken to Roscommon County Hospital for treatment.

The N61 is closed between Knockcroghery and Rosscommon to facilitate the examination of the crash site by Garda forensic collision investigators.
