Fatal road traffic collision in Donegal on the 11/7/10 - Further update

Gardai in Donegal are investigating a fatal road traffic collision on Sunday the 11th of July 2010 which claimed the lives of eight men.

The crash occurred on the Buncrana to Clonmany Road at about 10.40 p.m. Seven occupants of a black Volkswagen Passat along with the driver of a second car a red Toyota Corolla were killed in the crash.  The driver of the Passat was taken to Letterkenny General Hospital with serious injuries. 

The eight occupants of the Passat ranged in ages from their late teens to their early twenties.  The driver of the Corolla was a man in his 60s.

1.  Mark Mc Laughlin, Ballinahone, Fahan, Co. Donegal, aged 21 years.

2.  Paul Doherty, Ardagh, Ballyliffen, Co. Donegal, aged 19 years.

3.  Ciaran Sweeney, Ballyliffen, Co. Donegal, aged 19 years.

4.  P.J. McLaughlin, Rockstown, Tooban, Burnfoot, Co. Donegal, aged 21 years.

5.  James McEleney, Minaduff, Clonmany, Co. Donegal, aged 23 years.

6.  Damien McLaughlin, Umricam, Buncrana, Co. Donegal, aged 21 years.

7.  Eamonn McDaid, Cruckaheeny, Ballymagan, Buncrana, Co. Donegal, aged 22 years.

Occupant of Toyota Corolla.

8.  Hugh Friel, Dunaff, Clonmany, Co. Donegal, aged 66 years.

 

Please note that road closures are still in place at the scene and diversions apply.
