Gardai are advising motorists to continue to exercise extreme caution while driving.

A thaw has been reported in many areas and motorists are asked to be mindful of the threat of slush, black ice and flooding as road conditions change.   Ice and snow may remain in some sheltered areas for longer periods.

More snow is forecast for many parts of the country in the coming days. Motorists should continue to plan their journeys accordingly.

Gardai are also advising people to stay off the ice on frozen canals, ponds, lakes, rivers and flooded areas. More information is available on the Irish Water Safety Website www.iws.ie
