Explosives find in Dublin on the 5/1/10 - Update

Further to the earlier press release regarding an explosives find at Dorset Street, Dublin, |Gardai can confirm that the man arrested in connection with this incident has now been released without charge.

An Garda Siochana is in ongoing contact with law enforcement authorities in Slovakia regarding this matter and the Garda Commissioner Fachtna Murphy has appointed Detective Chief Superintendent Martin McLaughlin to establish the full background to this incident.

A small quantity of what is believed to be an explosives substance (subject to technical examination) was discovered in the course if a search of an apartment in Dorset Street this morning, the 5/1/10.

An Army Explosive Ordinance Disposal team have attended the scene and traffic diversions have been lifted.


Houses had been evacuated but residents have now returned.


One male in his 40's was arrested at 11am and is currently detained in Mountjoy Garda Station under the provisions of Section 30 Offences Against the State 1939 as amended.
