Discovery of body at Cratloe, Clare on the 5/2/10 - Arrests

Gardai investigating the murder of Francis Greene who was last seen on the 28/11/2009 and who’s body was found on the banks of the Shannon at Portdrine near Cratloe, Co. Clare on the 5/2/10.

They have arrested a male in his 20’s this morning, the 17/2/10 in the Limerick Area.
 

The male is currently being detained under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at Henry Street Garda station.

Francis Greene was last seen alive on the 27th November 2009.  His body was recovered at Portdrine, Cratloe, Co. Clare on last Friday evening, the 5th February 2010.

Widespread searches took place in an effort to locate Francis since he went missing.

 
Francis would have celebrated his 49th birthday next Thursday, the 11/2/10.  He was 5'9" in height and of slim build.  On the night he disappeared he was wearing a blue track suit top, blue jeans and white runners.  He was last seen in the Hartstonge Street area of Limerick.


We are particularly interested in talking to any person who may have been in the following area’s between 7.30pm and 8.30pm on Saturday night, the 27th November 2009:


Hartstonge Street crossing onto Mount Kenneth Place at its junction with Henry Street; Mount Kenneth Place passing Dominos Pizzeria; crossing Dock Road and onto the waterfront at Steamboat Quay - the area between the Clarion Hotel and the Skateboat Park.
 

The weekend of 27/28 November 2009 had been preceded by a period of heavy rainfall and flooding.  There were spring tides during the period and there were concerns in Limerick that flooding would take place.  The City Council had distributed sandbags to areas at high risk.
 

A Press Briefing will take place at Mayorstone Garda Station, Limerick at 3.30pm today, the 8/2/10.
