Arrests in relation to shooting incident Clondalkin on the 13/12/09

Gardai in Ronanstown investigating a shooting incident in the Greenfort area of Clondalkin on the 13th December 2009 have arrested 8 people (5 males and 3 females).

They are being detained under the provisions of Section 30 Offences against the State Act 1939 as amended in various Garda Stations in West Dublin (Leixlip, Lucan and Clondalkin). They were assisted by local and national units (ERU and NBCI).

The Garda Commissioner Fachtna Murphy has condemned an incident which occurred this morning (13/12/09) in which shots were fired at Gardaí.


The incident occurred on Greenfort Close, Clondalkin, Dublin at approximately 1.15 a.m.


Gardaí were investigating reports of damage to a house, when a number of shots were discharged in the direction of a neighbouring house, one of which entered through the front door where three members of An Garda Síochána were speaking with the resident. One of the Gardaí received minor injuries.


The Garda Commissioner said:

"I want to condemn this deplorable attack which put the lives of Gardaí and members of the public at risk. I have directed that the local Gardaí in Ronanstown who are investigating the incident receive whatever assistance and support they require from national units in order to bring those responsible to justice."
