Fatal road traffic collision on the N61, Roscommon on the 22/8/10 - Road re-opened

The N61, Athlone to Roscommon road, at Lecarrow has now reopened following the completion of a technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators.

Gardai at Roscommon are investigating a single vehicle fatal road traffic collision that occurred on the N61, Athlone to Roscommon road, at Lecarrow at approximately 6am on the 22/8/10.


A male in his 50’s was fatally injured when the car he was driving left the road and collided with a wall. He was pronounced dead at the scene and his body has been removed to Roscommon General Hospital. He was the sole occupant of the car.


The N61 road at Lecarrow has been closed and diversions are in place. The scene is currently being examined by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators.


Gardai wish to appeal for witness to this collision or to anyone that may have travelled this stretch of road between approximately 5am and 6am and can assist the investigation to contact Roscommon Garda Station on 090-6638300, The Garda Confidential Telephone Line 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.
