"Operation Reagent" - Dublin on the 10/8/10

Gardaí in the D.M.R. West and the Garda National Drug Unit, who are carrying out continuing investigations into the sale and supply of drugs (including heroin) in the west Dublin area have being involved in search and arrest operations since the 10 August which has resulted in the arrest and charging of 33 people, all of whom will appear in court on dates in the future.

Over 60 charges have already been preferred against those arrested as part of the major operation.

‘Operation Reagent’ has been a six month covert operation targetting two significant drug distribution networks operating in the Ballyfermot and Neilstown areas. Drug Units at Ronanstown and Ballyfermot Garda stations have been working closely with the Garda National Drug Unit to gather evidence and secure drug supply charges.

During the course of searches carried out in the past two days quantities of drugs including heroin have been seized. The focus of this operation has been to gather evidence against significant drug dealers in local communities and ensure these persons are brought before the courts.

‘An Garda Siochana is committed to tackling the supply of drugs at all levels in keeping with our commitment to the National Drug Strategy. The Garda National Drug Unit works together with local Garda Drug Units to ensure a co-ordinated and effective approach to protecting our communities, individuals and their families from the harm and pain caused by drug use. By working with other agencies and utilising innovative approaches we will continue to play our part in maintaining a safe community for everyone’
