Arrests following Supermarket robbery in Wexford on the 18/12/08 - 1382/08

Gardai investigating the robbery of a supermarket in Wexford town today, the 18th of December and the robbery of a Bookies in the town on the 16th, have arrested four men and one woman and a number of firearms have been seized.

Gardai investigating the robbery of a supermarket in Wexford town today, the 18th of December and the robbery of a Bookies in the town on the 16th, have arrested four men and one woman and a number of firearms have been seized.

Staff of a Londis Supermarket at Ferndale in Wexford town were confronted by two armed men shortly after 8.00 a.m. The men were armed with what appeared to be hand guns, they threatened staff and stole a quantity of cash.

In a follow up operation Gardai at a house in the town Gardai arrested four men , two in their 20's and two in their 40's and a woman believed to be in her 40's, they also seized a shotgun and two handguns.

The five are detained under Section 30 of the Offence Against the State Act and may be detained for up to 72 hours. They are being held at New Ross (1), Wexford (2) and Enniscorthy(2) Garda Stations.
