Update Road Works on the M7 Motorway 2018-2020

Gardaí appeal to motorists to slow down and stay safe to prevent delays on the M7

Since works have commenced on the M7 route between Junction 8 and Junction 11, in excess of 500 fixed penalty notices have been issued by An Garda Síochána to motorists for exceeding the speed limit.

During this period 32 motorists have been prosecuted for dangerous driving.

Recent incidents include:

• very high speeds
• poor lane discipline
• vehicles breaking through crash barriers

Traffic incidents along the route continue to be a cause of significant delays to road users on the route.

From the 26th November 2018, An Garda Síochána will be deploying two GoSafe Vans on this route to further enhance enforcement activity by local Roads Policing Units. This measure is being deployed to further deter motorists from breaking the 60kph speed limit in a renewed effort to keep both drivers and those carrying out works on the route safe.

Note

The purpose of this renewed appeal is to urge motorists to slow down, avoid loss of life and serious injury and prosecution for driving offences.

To date, although no loss of life has occurred, there has been a number of very serious incidents. In the past week alone a truck crashed through a barrier in an effort to avoid slowing traffic up ahead. Separately, a van collided with a barrier and landed in the works area.

Two GoSafe vans will be deployed to deter motorists from the temptation of increasing speed as they pass a speed van.

12/1/18 - Major road works have commenced on the M7 Motorway and will last until 2020.

Gardaí are appealing to all motorists to be vigilant and obey temporary speed limits in place. Currently there is a 60Kph speed limit in place between Junction 9 & Junction 10 but as work progress the road layout and speed limit will change.
As the road works will be carried out all day the speed limit will apply 24/7. Our primary focus is on preservation of life, reducing the obvious danger to workers on site and to all road users.
One motorist has already been arrested for driving at 141Kph in the new 60Kph zone.
As a result of the road works there will be no hard shoulder in place on parts of the M7 motorway. This will make it difficult for emergency services to attend any incidents that may occur.
Note: A video has been posted on our Facebook Page which highlights these issues and we would encourage members of the media to highlight these new traffic arrangements. Our primary focus is on preservation of life and reducing the obvious danger to workers on site and all road users.
