United Nations Anti-Corruption Day - 9th December 2018

Sunday the 9th December 2018 is UN International Anti-Corruption Day #UnitedAgainstCorruption 

An Garda Síochána has many initiatives' to tackle bribery and corruption: 

·         The setting up of a dedicated Anti-Corruption Unit at the Garda National Economic Crime Bureau. The Unit is a ring fenced resource dedicated to the investigation and prevention of both foreign and domestic bribery and corruption.  

·         That the Anti-Corruption Unit is proactive in identifying cases of bribery and corruption.

·         The Anti-Corruption Unit is liaising proactively with its national and international law enforcement partners.

·         A dedicated Confidential Line for the Reporting of Bribery and Corruption has been set up.

·         A number of Regional Economic Crime Investigators have been trained in the investigation of bribery and corruption and that there is currently a training course ongoing.  

9 December is UN Anti-Corruption Day!

  • Around $2.6 trillion are lost annually to corruption. This money is urgently required for: Healthcare, Education, Clean water, Infrastructure

  • Corruption creates a fertile ground for organised crime and terrorism, as criminals are aided in their activities by the complicity of corrupt public officials #UnitedAgainstCorruption

Irish anti-Corruption law has global reach and Irish Nationals and Corporates are liable for acts of bribery and corruption at home and abroad #UnitedAgainstCorruption
