Background:
Patrick Foley, born on 15th July, 1897, came from Fern Hill, Lisdoonvarna, Co. Clare. Having previously worked in farming he joined An Garda Síochána on 22nd March, 1935. He had previous military service in the 5th Battalion, Mid Clare Brigade (1917-1921). Garda Foley was married with four children.

Circumstances:
At 9.45 pm on Wednesday 11th November, 1953, Garda Foley, with a colleague, was on foot patrol walking along the Killaloe/Limerick road at Rosmadda near Connor’s Cross and facing in the Limerick direction. A lorry travelling along the road in the same direction collided with Garda Foley. He was removed to hospital and died from his injuries on 13th November, 1953.
