Update - Sudden Death Investigation Cavan on the 4/8/16

As a result of a post mortem examination which concluded this evening (4/8/16) the death of a 54 year old female is not being treated as suspicious.

A file will now be prepared for the coroner’s office.

Gardaí in Cavan are investigating all the circumstances of the death of a 54-year-old woman in Co. Cavan on the 4th August 2016.

At approximately 6.35am Gardaí attended the scene of an incident outside an apartment at Kempton Court, Cavan town where Emergency Services were treating a woman for serious head injuries. The woman was taken by ambulance to Cavan General Hospital where she was later pronounced dead.

Her body has since been removed to the mortuary at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda where a post-mortem will be carried out this afternoon by Dr Michael Curtis, Deputy State Pathologist.

The scene is preserved for a forensic and technical examination and an incident room has been established at Cavan Garda Station. A Garda Family Liaison officer has been appointed in the case.

Investigating Gardaí are appealing to anyone who was in the Kempton Court or Drumalee areas of Cavan town between 3am and 7am to contact them. Anyone with information is asked to contact Cavan Garda Station 049-4368800 or the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111.

The course of the investigation will be determined by the outcome of the post-mortem examination.
