Garda Robot Traffic Vehicle at Loughlinstown Roundabout on the 27/4/16

Speeding Drivers be Warned. M11 Northbound sections approaching the Loughlinstown Roundabout.

The Garda Robot Vehicle, fully marked, will be deployed near the Loughlinstown Roundabout this evening monitoring speed limits. Gardaí request that Motorists Slow Down.

Following a number of complaints to the Gardaí at the Divisional Traffic Unit in Blackrock, Co. Dublin,  in respect of the Loughlinstown Roundabout which is adjacent to Loughlinstown Hospital.

The complaints particularly referred to the difficulties encountered by drivers entering the roundabout, due to motorists exceeding the speed limit on the Northbound section of the M11 as it approached the Roundabout. The area in question is 80kph dropping to 50kph at the approach to the roundabout at this Section of the Roadway. The main traffic flow North onto the roundabout from the M11 makes it difficult to access the roundabout safely.

As a result of the complaints re speeding  the Garda Robot Speed Van was deployed on the mornings of the 12th and 13th of April 2016, 500 metres short of the Roundabout in the 80kmh zone to access the complaint and carry out enforcement at the location if necessary.  This Garda Robot Speed Van is Fully Marked in the Garda Traffic Livery and was parked in the Hard Shoulder which is coned off due to on-going Roadwork’s.

In relation to the 12th April 2016 the Garda Robot Speed Van Fully Marked was deployed between 10.15am and 1.15pm.

A total of 2105 vehicles passed the Garda Robot Speed Van and out of this 141 Fixed Charge Notices were issued for exceeding the Speed Limit.

(36 Vehicles were travelling in excess of 100kmh and 3 of those were in excess of 120kmh.)

In relation to the 13th April 2016 the Garda Robot Speed Van Fully Marked was deployed between 7am and 9.30am.

A total of 2807 vehicles passed the Garda Robot Speed Van and out of this 101 Fixed Charge Notices were issued for exceeding the Speed Limit.

(13 Vehicles were travelling in excess of 100kmh.)

This evening 27th April 2016 the Garda Robot Van Fully Marked will be in place again at the Loughlinstown Roundabout  and will monitor compliance with the speed limit.

The Garda message is "SLOWDOWN”. We urge drivers to slowdown, drive safely and avoid the fixed charge penalty notice.

An Garda Síochána are appealing for Motorists to Slow Down and Obey the Speed Limits which are set. Remember the Speed Limit is a Maximum Speed and not a Target Speed.

We request all radio and on line media outlets to alert drivers, raise awareness and encourage drivers to slowdown.
