Drug seizure and arrests in Newcastle West, Limerick on the 4/2/15

As part of an ongoing operation into the illegal sale and supply of controlled drugs in the Newcastle West area of Co. Limerick Gardaí from Newcastle West Garda Station, with the assistance of the Garda National Drug Unit and the Limerick Divisional Drug Unit have seized cannabis with an estimated value of €480,000, pending analysis.

On Wednesday, the 4th February 2015 a planned search of four locations was carried out in the Newcastle West and Abbeyfeale areas of Co. Limerick. Cannabis herb and cannabis plants all at different stages of harvesting was seized.

 

Two men, 39 & 36 years, were arrested and are currently detained at Newcastle West and Henry Street Garda Station under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act, 1996.

The operation was carried out by Gardaí attached to various divisional units at Henry Street Garda Station and Newcastle West Garda Station with the assistance of the local community.

These operations use advanced analytical and intelligence methods to disrupt criminals and dismantle their networks. Drug seizures play a critical role in targeting the livelihood of criminals and reducing their ability to carry out illegal activities. Drug seizures also help protect communities from the devastating impact of drugs and the associated criminality.
