A further 95 fixed charge penalty notices were issued today bringing the total number during the operation to 195.
The two day enforcement campaign, which is part of Operation Artery, involved Gardaí from Dublin Metropolitan Region (DMR) Traffic Division, along with Divisional Traffic units around the city, carrying out a series of checkpoints targeting legislation governing the use of mobile phones while driving.
Assistant Commissioner John Twomey, Garda National Traffic Bureau commented:
The purpose of the operation was not only to enforce existing legislation, but to also ensure that all road users are protected and to assist in the continuing efforts to reduce fatal and serious road traffic collisions.
