Update - Fatal road traffic collision in Cork on the 2/7/13

Gardaí at Cobh are investigating a two car fatal road traffic collision which occurred at Harpers Island, Carrigtwohill, Co Cork at approximately 11.40am today (2/7/13).

It appears from initial Garda investigations that a wine coloured Seat Ibiza drove in the wrong direction on the west bound lane of the N25 in the direction of Cork City and then collided with a red Subaru Impreza which was travelling west bound towards Carrigtwohill. The male driver of the Seat in his early 80’s (only occupant) was fatally injured. The 32 year old male driver of the Subaru (also only occupant) was injured. His injuries are described as non life threatening. 
 

The road was closed to facilitate an examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators but has since reopened.

Gardai in Cork are investigating a two vehicle fatal road traffic collision that occurred on the N25 East bound at Harpers Island between the Little Island and the Cobh Junctions at approximately 11.30am this morning.

A male in his 70’s was fatally injured when the car he was driving collided with a second car. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The male driver of the second car was taken to Cork University Hospital with injuries described as not life threatening. Both were the sole occupants of the cars.

 
The N25 East bound is currently closed between the Little Island and Cobh Junctions and East bound traffic is asked to use the old road to Glounthaune.
