Road reopened - Fatal road traffic collision on the N17, Galway on the 21/10/12

Gardai in Tuam are investigating a fatal road traffic collision on the N17 near the turn off for Dunmore at approximately 1.45pm this afternoon.

A 2 year old girl and a 2 month old girl were fatally injured when a car collided with them as they were walking on the hard shoulder. They were both taken to University Collage Hospital Galway where they were pronounced dead. The driver of the car, sole occupant, and the father of the girls, who was walking with them, was taken to UCHG with injuries described as not life threatening.  

The N17 is currently closed near the turnoff for Dunmore pending completion of an examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and local diversions are in place.
