A number events in around Dublin today the 27th May 2012 possible road restrictions.

The Gardai would like to advise road users in and around Dublin that there are many events on today and with the good weather large crowds are expected. You can check out the Garda website on www.garda.ie for a some of these events and possible road restrictions.
 

Public transport should be availed of where possible.
 
 
National  Cruiser Championships Howth Yacht Club
 
This event is the largest of its kind in Ireland this year and will involve upwards of 120 yachts with approx 7 to 10 crew members in each yacht.  Of the 120+ yachts involved about 40 of them of varying sizes will be arriving by road in the days leading up to the event but most will arrive on the Thursday or early Friday.  All these yachts will be departing on Sunday evening.

Most of the competitors will be staying locally and it is anticipated that the village of Howth and its environs will be busier than normal.


Thursday, 24/5/12 -  The opening ceremony will take place at 7.30pm with Minister Simon Coveney at the Yacht Club.


On Friday, 25/5/12  -  Twelve Ambassadors from various embassies will be attending the Yacht club for lunch at 12.30pm and expected to leave at 6pm parking for them will be set aside by the yacht club.


Racing will start at 4pm and ends approx 8.30pm.

On Saturday, 26/5/12  - Racing starts at 10.30am and ends approx 5.30pm followed by a Barbeque and other social events at the Yacht Club and around the village.


On Sunday, 27/5/12  -  Racing starts at 10.30am and ends approx 4.30pm followed by a short prize giving ceremony.


St Fintans Cemetery Mass Sunday 27th May 2012


As this event coincides with St Fintans Cemetery Mass (which of itself causes major traffic congestion), traffic congestion on Sunday will be a major issue. All competitors will be requested to wait departing the Harbour until at least 5.15pm in order to allow the mass traffic disipate. Gardai will bo on duty at:

*    The Harbour entrance (WEST Pier) to direct traffic leaving the Harbour.


*    Baldoyle village and its environs particularly Warrenhouse Road / Main Street / The Mall junction and Willie Nolan Road / Main Street and Willie Nolan Road / Grange Road to regulate and divert traffic as it builds up at these locations.


*    Burrow Road / Lauders Lane / Station Road junctions and Claremont Road / Burrow Road junction and Church Road / Howth Road junction.


*    Howth Road / Harbour Road / Harbour Entrance junction and Harbour Road / Abbey Street junction.


*    Rest of Howth peninsula and the various junctions around the Hill of Howth.


Shanganagh Cemetery Mass  Sunday  27th May 2012 2pm to 5pm


Upwards of 13,000 will be attending this Cemetery mass on Sunday, the 27th May 2012.  Due to large a volume of traffic, please expect delays.


Car parking restrictions will begin at 1.30pm.


At the end of the mass it all traffic exiting from Shangangh Cemetery will be diverted towards the Wilford Roundabout in order that traffic congestion may be minimised; any traffic wishing to go through Shankill Village can use the roundabout to come back.  


There are connections from LUAS Cherrywood stop with the Bus route No 84 route.  The DART can also be availed of and use of the Bus Route No. 145 from Shankill village. 

It is recommended that Public Transport be used where possible.
