Fatal road traffic collision on the N4 at Ardcarne, between Boyle and Carrick-On-Shannon

Gardaí at Boyle are seeking the public's assistance in identifying the victim of a fatal road traffic collision that occurred on the N4 at Ardcarne, which is between Boyle and Carrick-On-Shannon.

The collision occurred at approximately 4.30am this morning, Saturday 12th March 2011, and involved a van and a pedestrian.

The deceased is the pedestrian who is best described as male, believed to be in his 20's, shaven head and wearing blue jeans, white runners, a grey tee shirt and a dark charcoal coloured zip up top.

His body has been removed to Roscommon County Hospital.

Motorists are strongly advised to avoid using this route where possible as the N4 is closed in both directions at the scene to facilitate a forensic collision examination.  Gardaí are present and diversions are in place.
