Discovery of explosive device in a field at Ballinamore, Leitrim on the 28/3/11

Gardai in Carrick-on-Shannon are investigating the discovery of an explosive device in a field at Kildorragh, Ballinamore, Co. Leitrim at approximately 4pm yesterday, the 28th March 2011.

The scene was preserved by Gardai and the services of the Explosive Ordinance Disposal Unit were requested.  The examination by the EOD was completed at 12.30pm on the 29th March 2011 and the device removed by the Army for examination.<_o3a_p>

From initial examination it would appear that the device was in location for a considerable period of time. <_o3a_p>

Scene still preserved and investigations are on-going.
