Garda Traffic Arrangements for Guinness Hurling Championship Quarter Finals at Semple Stadium

Garda Traffic Arrangements for Guinness Munster Intermediate and Senior Hurling Championship Quarter Finals at Semple Stadium, Thurles, Co. Tipperary on Sunday 31st May, 2009.

 

The Munster Guinness Intermediate and Senior Hurling Championship Quarter Finals will take place in Semple Stadium, Thurles on Sunday 31st May 2009 involving –


Intermediate Hurling - 1.45 p.m. Tipperary -v- Cork.


Senior Hurling - 4.00 p.m. Tipperary -v- Cork.

 

The Gardai make the following appeal to all patrons attending the game.


N.B.

MAJOR ROAD WORKS ARE IN PROGRESS THROUGHOUT THE REGION AND ALL MOTORISTS ARE URGED TO ALLOW EXTRA TIME FOR YOUR JOURNEY.


It should also be bourn in mind that the Padre Pio National Pilgrimage Day will take place at Holycross Abbey, Thurles on Sunday 31st May, 2009 and a large number of pilgrims are expected to attend. The Holycross area should be avoided by all persons travelling to Semple Stadium.


Traffic Arrangements.


Car parks will be available on all approach routes and must be used by all patrons on their particular route thus avoiding unnecessary delays after the match.


1. Arrive in Thurles in good time for the matches.


2. Co-operate with the car park attendants and Gardai to ensure free flow of traffic.


3. The area about Semple Stadium will be kept completely free of parked vehicles and controlled by Garda Barriers.


4. The housing estates at the rear of Semple Stadium form an emergency route and any vehicles not belonging to residents will be towed, without exception.


5. Please do not abandon cars on the main routes. Keep driving until you meet Gardai on duty at relevant car parks. If you must park on the road ensure your car is turned for home, this is to ensure the minimum of delay after the matches.


6. A traffic diversion programme will be in place within Thurles and all motorists are asked to be patient during its operation. Every effort will be made to ensure that motorists can transgress the town with a minimum of delay.

 

Tipperary Supporters.


Tipperary supporters have an option on a number of routes to which they are very familiar.

Tipperary supporters will be mindful of the extra volumes of traffic travelling from Cork and should allow themselves extra time to arrive in Thurles.

 

Cork Supporters.


Supporters travelling by road should allow extra time to complete their journeys bearing in mind the traffic restrictions that may be in place at various locations.


Cork Supporters will have an option on the following routes :

Travel the M8 to Cashel and divert to at Exit 9 to Boherlahan, Holycross to Thurles.

Travel the M8 to Cashel and divert at Exit 7 and travel the old N8 to Horse & Jockey and Thurles.

Travel the M8 to Horse & Jockey and divert at Exit 6 to Thurles.

Travel via Limerick onto N7 to Nenagh and the R498 via Borrisoleigh and the Ragg to Thurles.


Passes.


Patron in possession of passes should display same in a prominent place on their vehicle and follow the Garda directions en route. These passes are not parking permits but allow free movement subject to Garda discretion and traffic control.


 

Illegally Parked Vehicles.


Vehicles found illegally parked will be towed away to the Garda Compound and will not be released until the statutory expenses (€113.50) have been paid. In addition a prosecution could be instituted against the driver / owner of the vehicle concerned.

 

Security.


The Gardai appeal to all motorists to :

Secure and lock their vehicles.


Leave no valuables on display.


Park in the supervised car parks.


Pick Pockets – beware of your wallet, money and A.T.M/Credit Cards. Leave your wallet at home if possible. Do not carry large sums of cash.


Drink and Claxton Air Horns will not be allowed into Semple Stadium.


We appeal to all concerned to make this outing a memorable day for the right reasons and to co-operate with Gardai, stewarts and encourage others to do the same.
