Garda Commissioner Meeting with Sir Hugh Orde

The Garda Commissioner Fachtna Murphy spoke this morning with the Chief Constable of the Police Service of Northern Ireland, Sir Hugh Orde and, on behalf of An Garda Síochána, extended his sincere condolences on the tragic death of Constable Stephen Carroll in Craigavon last night.

The Garda Commissioner Fachtna Murphy spoke this morning with the Chief Constable of the Police Service of Northern Ireland, Sir Hugh Orde and, on behalf of An Garda Síochána, extended his sincere condolences on the tragic death of Constable Stephen Carroll in Craigavon last night.

 

Both the Garda Commissioner and the Chief Constable reiterated their commitment to continue the current levels of co-operation to counteract the threat flowing from dissident republicans and other criminals.

 

Speaking at Garda Headquarters the Commissioner stated:

“The murders carried out in the last number of days in Northern Ireland represent a serious attack on the fundamentals of democracy itself and An Garda Siochana will do everything within its power to assist and co-operate with the Police Service of Northern Ireland to bring those responsible to justice.”

 

The Commissioner is scheduled to meet with the Chief Constable on Thursday 12/03/09 when the current security threat levels will be high on the agenda.
