Firearm recovered and arrests in Blanchardstown on the 11/9/08 - 1075/08

on the 11/9/08 an off duty member of An Garda Síochána witnessed shots being fired from a car on the Porterstown Road towards an official halting site (St. Mochtas).

At approximately 5.30pm this evening an off duty member of An Garda Síochána witnessed shots being fired from a car on the Porterstown Road towards an official halting site (St. Mochtas). 

He noted the direction of travel and particulars of the car and contacted Gardaí at Blanchardstown before following it a short distance. 

Uniformed, unarmed personnel, in a marked patrol car located this car at Damastown where it was almost immediately abandoned.  2 males fled from the car and they were chased on foot by the 2 Gardaí who had been in the patrol car.  They were subsequently arrested and a sawn off shotgun was recovered. 

Both men (aged 35 and 15 years) are presently detained at Blanchardstown Garda Station under section 30 of The Offences Against The State Act.
