Arrests in Cork under serious crime terrorists offences - and updates

Investigation targetting serious crime and terrorist activity in the Cork area.

 

A further two men are due to appear at a sitting of  the Special Criminal Court in Dublin at 10.30am on the 25th of February 2008. 

This brings to five the total appearing at the court.

The remaining two men have been released without charge and a file will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Three men detained in Cork under Section 30 Offences against the State Act are expected to appear at a sitting of the Special Criminal Court in Dublin on the 25th of February at 10.30 a.m.

Four other men remain in custody.

In relation to the above, Chief Superintendent, Cork will be holding a short press briefing at Anglesea Street Garda Station at 3.45pm this afternoon, 23rd February, 2008.

The six men arrested as part of a major Garda operation in Cork remain in custody.  They are detained at Gurranabraher (1), Togher (1), Mayfield (2) and The Bridewell (2) Garda Stations. 

The men range in ages from their 20's to their 50's.

A seventh man was arrested late last night and is detained under Section 30 Offences against the State Act at Henry Street Garda Station.

Gardai in Cork city have arrested four men this evening.

The arrests follow a prolonged investigation targetting serious crime and terrorist activity in the Cork area.

A number of items were also seized.

The operation involved local Gardai in Cork working closely with national units.

The men are being detained under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act.

As part of a follow up operation two further arrests were  made, bring the total in custody to six.
