Cycle for charity - "Tour de Force"

Group of 50 Gardai and their friends who take up an annual challenge of cycling a selected distance in aid a chosen charity and raising significant funds for that charity.

 

This is a group of 50 Gardai and their friends who take up an annual challenge of cycling a selected distance in aid a chosen charity and raising significant funds for that charity. 

In 2005, The Tour De Force cycled from Roscoff in France to San Sebastian in Spain and raised over €100,000 for our Ladys’ Hospital in Crumlin. 

In 2006, The Tour De Force stayed local and cycled from Donegal to Kerry over 5 days and raised €90,000 for DEBRA Ireland. 

The 2007 trip took the cyclists to Spain, where they covered over 500kms and raised over €100,000, again for DEBRA Ireland. 

This years event starts on the 1st September, 2008 at Marrowbone Lane. Cycling to Rosslare and by a circuitous route to Paris finishing at the Eiffel Tower on Friday the 5th September 2008.  

The chosen charities for the 2008 cycle are the Christina Noble Childrens Foundation and the Re Nua, St. Raphaels, Celbridge. 

The proceeds, 100,000 euro, is to fund the establishment of a health centre and a clinic to be run by the CNCF(Christina Noble Childrens Foundation) in Vietnam and to provide activities to people with mental disabilities as they age (Re Nua). 

The local community are delighted to participate and have afforded us the use of their community centre.  Interviews will be facilitated. Christina Noble, who was born in Marrowbone Lane, Dublin 8.  A number of members of the Garda Band will be present to launce the commencement of the cycle.
