UPDATE 1 – (Dublin Region) Anticipated Visit of the 47th President of the United States of America, Mr. Donald J. Trump to Ireland 12th & 13th September 2026
It is anticipated that the 47th President of the United States of America, Mr. Donald J. Trump will visit Ireland on the 12th & 13th September 2026
On the morning of the 12th September 2026 the visit will primarily be concentrated in the Phoenix Park. Traffic management details are further updated below.
Dublin Airport
The 47th President of the United States of America will arrive at Dublin Airport on the morning of the 12th September 2026 and depart later at lunchtime for Shannon Airport.
Normal operations will continue at Dublin Airport at all times.
However, members of the public, travelling through Dublin Airport on the morning/ early afternoon of Saturday 12th September 2026 should allow additional time to arrive at the airport due to possible additional security patrols in the vicinity of Dublin Airport and expected temporary restrictions and rolling road closures on the M50 motorway.
Perimeter roads to Dublin Airport, R108, R132, Old Airport road are now subject to traffic restrictions at various times until after the departure of the 47th President of the United States of America during early afternoon 12th September 2026.
The highest impact of these restrictions will be 0800hrs - 0900hrs and 1200hrs – 1300hrs on Saturday 12th September 2026.
There is NO parking on any of the perimeter roads to Dublin Airport tomorrow Saturday 12th September.
The Old Airport Road will be one way traffic only on the 12th September travelling east towards R132 Swords Rd from 0500hrs.
The South Runway viewpoint ‘The Mound’ in the Old Airport Road will remain open as a viewing point but for pedestrians only.
There will be no parking on the Old Airport Road.
Other Aircraft Viewing Stands on the perimeter roads of Dublin Airport will not be open to the public or parking of vehicles.
M50 Motorway:
It is expected that temporary traffic restrictions will be implemented on the M50 Motorway to facilitate security motorcycle escorts. The highest impact of these restrictions will be 0800hrs - 0900hrs and 1200hrs – 1300hrs between J3 and J6 on the M50.
However, travelling public can expect additional rolling road closures to facilitate security escorts across the duration of the morning of Saturday 12th September 2026 on the M50 Motorway and in the environs of the Phoenix Park.
Phoenix Park
The Phoenix Park closed to all traffic and pedestrians from 2300hrs (11pm) Thursday 10th September until after the completion of the policing and security operation in the Dublin Region on the 12th September 2026.
Phoenix Park will be closed to all through traffic.
The following restrictions will apply gates will be and public access
- Castleknock Gate, closed to all vehicles and pedestrians
- Parkgate Street Gate, closed to all vehicles and pedestrians
- Islandbridge Gate, closed to all vehicles and pedestrians
- Ashtown Gate, controlled access for Emergency Vehicles
- Cabra Gate, Authorised Vehicle entry only
- North Gate, vehicle & pedestrian access to Garda headquarters and Dublin Zoo Staff only
- Chapelizod Gate, vehicle & pedestrian access to St Mary’s Hospital & Cheshire Homes
- Knockmaroon Gate, Authorised Vehicle Exit only
An Garda Síochána has contacted, and remains in contact with, all affected premises and arrangements are in place for local access (work/ business/ residents ONLY/ NO recreational access)
There will be no Access to Dublin Zoo, the Phoenix Park Visitors centre, the Magazine Fort. Persons intending on visiting ant of these or similar sites within the Phoenix Park should check the relevant sites website or social media for more specific information.
Dublin City
There are no public events in the Dublin Region connected with the visit.
Dublin City Centre remains open for business.
An Garda Síochána is aware of proposed protest and public gatherings to take place in Dublin City Centre around lunchtime.
An Garda Síochána is engaging with a number of protest groups who wish to gather over the duration of this visit. Peaceful protest will be facilitated and every effort will be made to minimise disruption to Dublin City Centre.
Other potential protest activity being promoted online has not engaged with An Garda Síochána.
It is expected that a public gathering will congregate in the vicinity of the Garden of Remembrance, Parnell Square and it is likely that this public gathering will walk towards Government buildings.
An Garda Síochána will have appropriate traffic management measures in place around and to facilitate this public gathering.
An Garda Síochána will advise members of the public further if/ when further information is available.
Drone Restrictions
An Garda Síochána reminds members of the public that the operation of Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS/ Drone) is prohibited within 5km of any Airport, over urban areas, over crowds and in other restricted areas.
UAS Geographical Zones and/ or TRA (Temporary Restricted Airspace) flight restriction notifications will be in place at venues during this visit. This includes restrictions on Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) i.e. drones.
The Irish Aviation Authority (IAA) issues these restrictions, some of which can be issued at short notice for operational reasons. UAS (drone) pilots should check the IAA website for restrictions on flying drones in UAS Geographical Zones and TRAs immediately before operating a UAS.
UAS detection systems will be in place to identify the location of drones that are flying in restricted areas as well as the drone pilot. Breaches of TRAs and Geographical Zones are subject to investigation by An Garda Síochána and the IAA.

An Garda Síochána is working to ensure that the nature and scale of our policing and security operation continues to be proportionate to the need to protect everyone’s safety.
Our objective is to continue to share as much information with the public where necessary as soon as we are in a position to do so.
We would ask members of the public to heed the advice and instructions of Gardaí and we thank them for their continuing co-operation.
Members of the Public travelling in the vicinity of Dublin Airport, Phoenix Park and Dublin South City Centre on the morning of the 12th September are be asked to plan their journeys during this period to ensure to leave enough time for possible traffic disruptions and to expect some localised delays.
An Garda Síochána has and continues to liaise with business and local residents in the key locations and will continue to communicate directly with them during the visit.
An Garda Síochána continues to engage with Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) and Public Transport Providers to minimise disruption to the Public Transport Network.
