Gardaí are currently at scene of a fatal road traffic collision which occurred on the N20 at Burnfort, Mallow, Co. Cork this evening Wednesday 21st October, 2026. The collision which involved a car and a pedestrian occurred at approximately 5:45pm.
The male pedestrian, aged in his 20s was fatally injured and his body has been removed from the scene to the mortuary in Cork University Hospital where a post mortem examination will take place.
The male driver of the car, and sole occupant, aged in his 20s was taken to Cork University Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. The road is currently closed and will remain closed overnight.
A technical examination by Forensic Collision Investigators will take place tomorrow morning. Local diversions are in place.
Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the collision to contact them. Any road users who were travelling in the area of the N20 at Burnfort between 5:15pm and 5:45pm this evening Wednesday 21st October 2026, and who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) are asked to make it available to Gardaí.
