Witness Appeal – Serious Injury Road Traffic Collision, N60 Balla, Co. Mayo – 11th March 2026

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following a serious injury traffic collision in Co. Mayo on Thursday, 12th March 2026.

Shortly after 12:15pm, Gardaí and emergency services responded to a road traffic collision involving three cars, a van and an articulated truck on the N60 Castlebar to Balla road at Smuttanagh, Manulla.

The driver of one of the cars (a woman in her 50s) was brought by ambulance to Mayo University Hospital, where her condition is described as critical. The passenger and only other occupant of that car (male, 60s) was brought to hospital as a precaution.

No other injuries were reported at the time.

A technical examination of the scene was carried out by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and the road has since fully reopened.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward. Road users who may have camera footage, including dash-cam footage from the N60 Castlebar to Balla road and Manulla area between 12pm and 1pm are asked to make this available to investigating Gardaí.
