Gardaí carried out a co-ordinated national day of action relating to powered personal transporters yesterday, Wednesday 25th March 2026.
Gardaí attached to Community Policing along with members from the National Roads Policing Unit carried out the day of action for the enforcement of motorcycles, electric motorcycles, quad bikes, mopeds and powered personal transporter type vehicles.
As part of Operation Meacán and in support of the national day of action, Bridewell Gardaí engaged with a number of dangerous driving incidents in the Dublin 7 area.
During the course of the operation, two high powered electric scooters – along with a bladed weapon - were seized.
A man (aged in his 30’s) who was arrested under public order legislation has since been charged, and is expected to appear before the Criminal Courts of Justice, Court 4, this morning, Thursday 26th March 2026, at approximately 10.30am.
A juvenile male, aged in his teens, who was arrested has since been released without charge pending referral to the National Youth Diversion Programme. Investigations ongoing.
The aim of Operation Meacán is to tackle the use of electric vehicles such as e-motorcycles which are being used for criminal activity including drug dealing, money laundering, transporting firearms, Drug Related Intimidation (DRI) and other serious offences.
