Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of a road traffic collision on Main Street, Abbeyleix, Co. Laois yesterday evening Wednesday 28th January 2026.
The collision involving a car and a male pedestrian (aged in his 70's) occurred at approximately 7pm. The pedestrian was conveyed to Midland Regional Hospital Tullamore where he was later pronounced deceased.
The road was closed for technical examination, and has since reopened. No other injuries have been reported.
Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this collision to contact them.
Any road users, who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the area between 6.30pm and 7:30pm yesterday evening are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí.
