On 17th February 2026, a coordinated day of action as part of Operation Meacán was carried out in the Ballymun area. The operation involved members of Ballymun Community Engagement, with assistance from the Ballymun Community Response Team, Community Policing Unit, DMR North Roads Policing Unit, Divisional Drugs Unit, Armed Support Units (ASU) and DCC Dog Wardens.
During the operation, a total of 13 searches of residential properties were conducted, targeting the sale and supply of controlled drugs and related criminal activity.
These searches resulted in the seizure of 44 illegal bikes and scramblers under the Roads Traffic Act 2023. The vehicles seized included 18 e-scooters, 14 e-bikes, two motorbikes, three Surrons and seven mini quad bikes.
Quantities of drugs, cash and a number of weapons were also recovered. Cannabis valued at €9,000 was seized at one residence, resulting in the arrest of a male in his late teens. At another location, Zopiclone/Alprazolam valued at €2,000 was seized and a male in his twenties was arrested. Two further searches of residential properties resulted in seizures of cannabis worth €500 and €250 and the arrest and of two males in their 20s. (All drugs seized are subject to analysis.)
All of those arrested have since been charged and are scheduled to appear before sittings of the Dublin District Courts in the coming weeks.
Roads Policing units carried out a number of rolling checkpoints during the operation, resulting in the arrest of a male in his 20s for driving under the influence. A total of 23 Fixed Charge Notices were issued for a range of traffic offences and two e-scooters and one car were seized under Section 41 of the Road Traffic Act.
