22/08/2026 Discovery of body of a female, Lower Cecil Street, Limerick city, 21st August 2026

Gardaí are investigating all the circumstances surrounding the discovery of a body of a female (aged in her 30s) in an apartment on Lower Cecil Street, Limerick City on the morning of Friday 21st August 2026.

The female’s body was removed from the scene to the mortuary in University Hospital Limerick where a post-mortem examination was carried out by the State Pathologist.

The results of this post-mortem examination are not being released for operational reasons.

An Garda Síochána is now carrying out a murder investigation.

A Family Liaison Officer has been assigned to support the family of the deceased.

The scene remains preserved, and a technical examination is ongoing by the Garda Technical Bureau.

A Senior Investigating Officer (SIO) has been appointed to lead the investigation. An incident room has been established at Henry Street Garda Station.
