18/08/2026 Two arrests, €100,000 Worth of Cocaine Seized, Co Roscommon, 16th August 2026

As part of ongoing investigations into the activities of an organised crime group based in Sligo, Gardaí conducted an operation over the weekend of 14th-16th August 2026.

As part of the operation, Gardaí from the Sligo/Leitrim Crime Functional Area, supported by the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau, stopped and searched a vehicle in Carrick-on-Shannon, Co Leitrim and one in Keadue, Co Roscommon.

Suspected cocaine with an estimated street value of €100,000 was seized and two people were arrested.

The man (aged in his 40s) and the woman (in her 50s) are being detained at a station in the Garda North Western Region under Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act 2007.

The drugs will be sent to Forensic Science Ireland for analysis.

Investigations are ongoing.

This seizure forms part of Operation Tara; an enhanced national anti-drugs strategy, which was launched by the Garda Commissioner in July 2021.

The focus of Operation Tara is to disrupt, dismantle and prosecute drug trafficking networks, at all levels - international, national, local - involved in the importation, distribution, cultivation, production, local sale and supply of controlled drugs.
