05/08/2026 Update (2) - High Impact Day of Action – Operation Meacán, 4th August 2026

Gardaí conducted a high-impact day of action under Operation Meacán in the Dublin Metropolitan Region yesterday, Tuesday 4th August 2026.

The update seizures figures from the 96 searches undertaken by Gardaí are below:

* 166 e-bikes and e-scooters

* 7 Surron bikes

* 4 scrambler motorcycles

* 3 quad vehicles

* €25,820 in cash

* Suspected drugs valued in excess of €158,000 (pending analysis)

* A sawn-off shotgun and ammunition

Four of the five individuals who were arrested have since been charged and will appear before Court on a future date. The one male arrested on foot of a bench warrant has since appeared before Court.

The high intensity policing operation is a targeted collaborative approach by Divisional Crime Units, supported by Community Engagement Areas throughout the region, intended to meet the objectives of Operation Meacán.

Operation Meacán, which commenced in December 2023 in the Dublin Metropolitan Region, targets the use of electric motorbikes, e-scooters and e-bikes for criminal activity including drug distribution, money laundering, transporting firearms, Drug Related Intimidation (DRI) and other serious offences.

Along with yesterday’s enforcement, Gardaí also engaged with members of the public in the Dublin Region on current regulations in relation to motorcycles, e-bikes, e-scooters as well as the new regulations due to come into effect this month.
